Self-Portraits of My Past Lives, Volume One
Self-Portraits of My Past Lives, Vol.1 is a collection of photography from actual ghost towns in Idaho and Montana, using myself as the subject. It comprises four fictional short Western vignettes in four different periods (1865, 1877, 1889, and 1905) using clothing, editing, typeface, and storytelling that mimic the look and feel of the Old West.
This project was a combination of a desire to stretch the form of self-portrait photography as far as possible, while imagining a past with me—living as myself, a trans woman—in it. It is titled "Volume One" because I would like to continue this theme further into the 20th century; the photography in this project was done digitally, but ideally, future volumes will make use of era-accurate mediums.
